Default Oven Door Hinge Problem
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: RF4900XLW2
Age: More than 10 years

After 19 years our main oven door wouldn't stay completely closed, so figuring we needed new hinges, we contacted an authorized service company in our area that was shown on the Whirlpool website.

A few weeks later the serviceman arrived, diagnosed the oven door needed new hinges, charged us a diagnostic fee, and said he'd have to order the hinges.

Approximately 6 weeks later he returned and installed new hinges and springs.

The oven door still didn't completely close the way it used to, but the serviceman assured me that the new hinges and springs had to break in, and then would work perfectly.

Well after 6 months you still had to "nudge" the oven door shut. Now after 11 months, the door appears to have dropped and no longer stays closed, allowing the oven light to remain on!

The service company is no longer shown for authorized service on the Whirlpool website, we'd prefer not to call them again.

I guess my question is this: Does my oven door need another pair of hinges?

The first pair lasted 19 years - The new pair only 11 months??

OR

Is there an adjustment I can make to the hinges or springs that will lift the door up and keep it closed?

THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN OFFER!

It could be that the hinge channels are worn allowing the door to drop.

Take the door apart and see if there is any ware.

You may be able to use washer to shim the door.

Unfortunately most of the parts for your range are no longer available.

Here is a link to your range model RF4900XLW2.
