Red face Oven does not heat
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: JM68Y1Dc
Age: More than 10 years

Oven does not heat either with baking or broiling. Light indicator works when both dials are set to broil, but when set to bake. What is the problem?

Can you please verify your model number?

If this is a range you can find the model on the frame of the range where the drawer closes. It will be on a tag with the serial number.

If it is a wall oven you will find it on a tag in the door area.

Red face reply to sheila

Dear Sheila: GE oven model nr. JM68Y1DC, serial nr. XYM23465 was taken off metal tag on front frame at the bottom. Oven is over 20 years old so maybe the model nr. is different. Neither the baking nor broil elements work, but the indicator light above the temperature dial goes on when the "on" dial is turned to broil. Are there any tests we casn run to narrow down the problem? Please help.

I'm not sure why your model number will not work.

It could be because of the age.

So what you have on your range is a thermostat dial with the temperature and a selector switch with bake and broil etc.

If the clock on your range is an analogue type make sure that it is set to manual.

If you have a meter you can check the contact in the selector switch and the thermostat using your wiring diagram that you can find in behind the control panel.

There may be a wire burnt off.
