Default NuTone Range Hood Fan not working
Brand: Please select
Age: Please select

Wow, when something breaks in the house I know I'm in for a long journey trying to understand the fridge, drier or other expensive-now-useless houselhold item. Of course, I had never heard of this site....hopefully my problems are solved!

Anyway, my specific issue is with the range hood in our kitchen. It is a Nutone model which looks to be quite robust and large - i assume its a commercial model. it looks a little like this one: Nutone Model: RMN3004 - 30 Inch NuTone Premier - Stainless Steel - Soffit Chimney

When i turn the fan on it hums/buzzes quietly but does not start up. There is definetly power gettting to it (there is also a light which works). After a couple of minutes (with the switch left on) it suddenly turned on and worked fine. I tried it the next day and it was back to not working. By the way it is variable speed, the switch is actually a dial.

I read a previous post suggesting there are 3 main components; motor, switch and relay. any suggestions as to which is my problem and how to test for it?

thanks in advance
Ian

There are very few parts in a range hood.

It sound like the motor in your range hood is seizing up.

Does the blade turn freely when off?

Can you please supply the model number to your range hood?

There should be a tag with the model and serial on it.
