Default Need help with infinite switch
Brand: Jenn-Air
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have an old Jenn-air electric cook top. The problem is that I needed to replace the old infinite switches. So I replaced them after I plugged it in to test it, it did not work properly.(i think) When I turn on a switch the burner comes on for about 10 sec. and then goes out. After in cools down for 30-45 sec. it repeats in the same manor. As the burner goes out the switch makes a click noise. When I turn the burner the whole way up it stays on. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions about what to do.

My dad thinks that the burners are suppose to cycle like that and that is how it regulates the heat to the burner and that is why it stays "lit" if you turn it the whole way up. If someone could please tell me what is going on I would appreciate it.

I was also wondering if maybe I got the wrong switch because maybe it's not rated for enough amperage. But this is just a wonder I don't really know what the problem is at all.

Thank you,
Chris

The elements should cycle and stay on longer as you turn the dial up.

Here is a link to your cooktop model cce3400b.

Thanks Sheila

When you say that they should cycle do you mean that when the switch is barley on the burner should turn on for 10 sec then shut off. then in 20 secs it turns back on. Because the dual element burner I have does not do that. It turns on and stays on. The dual inifnite switch is also brand new. But the smaller burners keep going out. We bought both switches from here.

I also dont know if the burners are bad either. What should be the resistance of the 6in and the 9 in elements and the dual element if know..

thank you for your help
chris
