Question Nagging Beeping Problem
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 790.96599
Age: Less than 1 year

Hello.

One week ago my family was awakened at 1:00 am to beeping noises coming from the kitchen. Upon investigation it was our 6 month old Kenmore Elite Range making the noise. I closely watched it for a while and the display never changed or blinked. It simply would just beep at seemingly random intervals. I thought it might be electrical noise on our line so we ignored it and went back to bed. I caught an ear full of complaining the next morning due to the noise and vowed to further investigate it the next time it happened.

The next night the same routine started all over again. This time I hit the stop button several times in order to clear this problem. The clock display went blank and then every time a beep would occur the number eight would appear in the clock display. It was random up until I hit the stop button and then a continuous beep every second or so with an eight appearing on the display. To ensure family harmony and my safety in the morning, I unplugged the range for the night. I plugged it back in the next morning and all was quiet and it seemed to function properly. We all went about our daily business.

The next night, (starting to see a disturbing pattern here), it happened again. When I went to check the range this time something was different. It was displaying one of the following: F11 Err or P11 Err
It was 3:30 am I was tired, and cranky. I lean towards it being P11 Err but I am not sure. Previous times I had no messages, now that I do I feel somewhat unsafe about leaving it plugged in and so I disconnect it and go to bed.

Now, I know the general advice would be to call Sear's Service. I did this and this is where it gets a little strange. I explained the events as above and was told this is a power issue. The person on the phone told me this is a problem with spikes or noise on the power line. I am very skeptical of this advice as it has happened yet again tonight and the range sits in the kitchen, as I type, in the middle of the floor disconnected from power as I do not truly trust its safety at this moment. The person on the phone told me to unplug the range for a few minutes then plug it back in and then depress the STOP button for five seconds to reset the unit. I did this and it has started all over again tonight.

I am writing to ask your advice about this issue. Can the power supply be the problem? I am very skeptical because we have had it for 6 months problem free.
What do you think the problem is? I know it is under warranty still. I just want to be better educated to argue about this when I call the service line tomorrow.
Where can I get the service manual and wiring diagrams?

Thanks in advance for you help!

Wes

F11 fault code on your oven means the it has a shorted keypad. if it keeps coming back the you need to replace the EOC

I am having the exact same problem with the beeping at random times with my range. It is about 10 years old and has the model number of #7458XRA so I am hoping I can contact someone about how to TURN IT OFF?
PLEASE let me know if there is someone I can call SOON, it is driving us nuts and waking us up all night long, prompt response will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks very much for any help you can give me.
Sj.
