Default Maytag Oven bake heating element not working
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MER6772BAS
Age: 1 - 4 years

The baking heating element in the upper (smaller) oven is not working. I took out the broiling heating element and put it into the baking slot and it did not work. The new heating element I had ordered previously did not work either. When I inserted the baking heating element and put it into the broiling slot, it caused a short circuit. Can it be an internal fuse? Please help.

My guess is that you caused the short when you put the Bake into the Broil position. Sounds like the elements are OK. Check to find out where the short occurred, you may now have a burned off wire, will probably have to pull the oven to do this. Put the Broil back and see if it works.

Looks like there is a thermal cutout in the Broil element circuit (not in the bake)

I would suggest you get a volt/ohm meter. You can get a digital one for under $20.00. You do not need a fancy one. It is nice if the leads are a couple feet long.
If it saves you from ordering one unnecessary part, it has paid for itself.

Most likely is the Bake element relay on the relay board but could be other things.

Do not attempt repair unless you are comfortable around 240 volts which is lethal.
