Question Maytag electric cooktop "Hot Surface" light won't go off

We recently bought a house and the stove that came with the house is a built-in Maytag electric stove, an oven-and-glass-cooktop combination. I could not locate a model or serial number (possibly because the stove is built in to the counter?); however, it does say that it is a "Maytag Advanced Cooking System" with a Ceran Schott cooktop. I was told that it is about eight years old--which may or may not be true. Anyway, we used the self-cleaning feature today for the oven prior to using the stove for the first time and, after completing this task, the "Hot Surface" light on the cooktop shows that the small front left burner is on--but it is not. The indicator light on the front panel for that particular burner is not lit, showing that the burner is not on. I have jiggled and turned on and off all the burners repeatedly but the "Hot Surface" light on the cooktop remains lit for that burner. [Note: An hour ago, when I first discovered the problem, the burner in question was warm to the touch--not hot, because I could set my hand down on it without burning it--but definitely warm, even though the other three burners were cold. After my efforts to fix the problem, that burner had cooled off and the indicator light was the only thing amiss.] Please tell me what is going on here.
