Default Kenmore range element arcing like welder
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 91195061690
Age: 5 - 10 years

The think had ben working fine, but yesterday the element broke and started arcing like a welder - really bright light. I shut off the oven control but the element remained on. I then turned off the breaker.

Aside from needing a new bottom element, can you suggest anything else? I am not sure why this should suddenly happen. Think I should just replace the whole stove? It's a flat top model.

Thanks

Marshall

As long as the contact in the oven control did not get damaged all you should need is the element.

I did have to shut off the power at trhe breaker because the element was still glowing. Think the switch is bad too?

The element would glow for a while until it cooled down, likely for a couple of minutes.

The contact in the oven thermostat are not likely damaged.

If you have a meter you can check them for continuity.
