Kenmore gas range ERC problem You sound pretty knowledgeable, so at the risk of asking a really dumb question, have you tried simply powercycling the unit? (unplug for 2-3 mins and plug back in?)
I have a 3 yr old Kenmore model no. 790.78694400 and just recently the numeral LEDs started dimming and seem to get dimmer as the oven runs and heats up. I read something on another forum about someone with clock / timer problem and powercycling was suggested. I was just getting ready to order a new ERC (100 bucks), but after reading that I unplugged the range for a few moments, plugged it back in, the control unit made a little brief buzzing sound and the LEDs were bright as new again. I'm running the oven at 450 now and plan to let it heat up for several hours and see what happens. If the LEDs don't dim down after getting good and hot, I'm not going to replace the board. It's easy to forget that these parts are nothing but computer logic and sometimes just need a reboot like the computer I'm typing on! Good luck! Quote:

Ive checked the voltage at the relay on the back of the unit and it reads a constant 0.5 volts. All the other terminals (broil, bake etc) read 118v. I assume the relay is bad and would like to change it. The relay is $1.98 - a far cry from $133. If that doesnt work is there someplace selling these parts cheaper? Or are there any suggestions as to what else it could be? Otherwise this range will be a retireree. | |
