Unhappy Jenn Air Oven Issues
Brand: Jenn-Air
Model Number: SCE30600B
Age: 5 - 10 years

About a month ago my clock display went dim. Everything worked just got dimmer when oven was on. I replaced the clock display last night and now the oven does not work. I can't set the time and none of the buttons work. Also when we turned the power back on the oven fan and light come on and because none of the buttons work I can't turn off . I called the people I ordered the part from and was directed here. The lady I spoke with said that maybe there is a reset button somewhere. If anyone can help please do. Thank you

Default Junk-Air Controls

I have a Junk-Air SCE30600 that is 12 years old and the third Invensys Appliance Control just died. This is the clock/temp/oven control board and from what I have been able to learn, these things don't last long. At about $150 each, you can buy yourself a good range in short order. I suspected power surges were causing the problem and installed a whole house protector. It is apparent that Junk-Air does not use any MOV's to protect any of their electronics.

If you have installed a new display board and you are getting unusual results, check the ribbon cable on the compression connector on the board. You have to pull up on the ears on each end of the connector to release the ribbon to get the old one out. When you install the new one, hold the cable in the connector with one hand and push the connector wedge in with the other.

It's a good idea to open your breaker or unplug the range before you do any electrical work on it.

Cool SVD48600BC control board and switch membrane replaced

Thanks I did switch off the power.
I finally got my stove repaired. It turns out when I removed the control board I damaged the ribbon cable for the switch membrane. It was an expensive mistake.

Jenn-Air Model SCE 30600:

The display dimmed but would brighted up when oven heated up. A few weeks later it died completely. I replace the touch pad with no improvement. I did find out that turning off the power for a few minutes allowed some circut to reset and permit a one time oven set & use. Still no display & I had to kill the power to turn it off (Key pad un-responsive).
Do I need to replace the control circut board? Can you tell me the part #?
Do you have any trouble-shooting tips to varify my problem?

Hi
I think there is a free service manual on your stove on this post somewhere.
I think it's on page 25 (that's a guess) on troubleshooting but it tells you how to get error codes to come up on the display by pressing a few buttons on the front when powering up.
If you can not get those error codes to come up I would think the switch membrane is not working. Especially on power up the clock just flashes and you can ot get the clock to work. As for the LEDs going dim there is a board inside called a control board the membrane plugs into that board. Hope this helps.
A

Default Jenn-Air Model SCE 30600

Thanks for this post. My 9 year old oven's LED display started to dim too. The LED's eventually went off, but the touch pad, oven, and stove top continued to work.

As suggested, replacing the LED display control was an easy fix. The part was $130 which is far cheaper than a $1700 replacement oven that my wife wanted.

Thanks for the tip on being gentle with the touch pad ribbon cable. Overall, it was a simple 10 minute repair.

Default New Range

I get really pissed every time this thing quits working, and I look for a new, different range. Unfortunately, these things have gotten really expensive and when you look at how they are made...they are really, really expensive. My Mom bought a new Imperial range after a tornado destroyed her home in 1957. It was a fairly cheap range but it had a genuine porcelain outer and inner coating. After 35 years of use it still looked like it did when new. There was an electrical problem, the clock slowed.

By comparison my expensive Junk-Air has paint that you can rub off with your finger, the electronics must be from Radio Hack, and the interior parts will cut you faster than a dull razor. From reading in this forum, none of the other brands seem to be any better, they all have electrical problems and bad finishes. I long for the days when Americans made quality appliances in America.
