Default Jenn-Air hallogen cartridge problem
Brand: Please select
Model Number: C236
Age: More than 10 years

I have a Jenn-Air C236 cooktop I am working on. The original cooktop used coil cartridges but we replaced the with hallogen cartridges which have worked great for five years. A week ago when turning of one of the burners there was a flash and then the burner would no longer work. I found the right replacement burner from PartSelect. Tonight I installed it. When I put the cartridge back in the cooktop on what I will call side A. when I turned on the control for the replaced burner it worked fine. However when I turned the control on for the second burner in the cartridge with the replaced burners control off, both burners turned on. I thought it may be a wiring problem so I opened it again, checked and it seemed fine. I then swapped the hallogen cartridge from the other side (side B) of the cook top to side A and it had the same issue. I tried the repaired cartridge on side B and it worke fine. So it appears the problem is in the controls. Has anyone seen a problem like this? Is repairing it just a matter of replacing the control switch that is causing both burners to light?

One of the switches is causing your problem.

Replaces the switch and you should be fine.

Here is a link to your cook top model c236.
