Default Jenn Air cooktop will not get hot
Brand: Jenn-Air
Model Number: JEC9530ADB
Age: 1 - 4 years

I just installed a cooktop that I bought used from craigslist.

Problem: When I switch any burner on in the unit, the light will come on showing that the unit has power, but the burner will not get hot. Additionally, the fan on the bottom of the unit WILL run when I switch a burner on. This is the case for every burner on the unit, nothing will get hot however.

My wiring: I have a three wire setup coming from my wall, White(Hot)/Black(Hot)/Bare. The cooktop has four wires, Red(Hot)/White(Neutral)/Black(Hot)/Bare.

I have the Red from the cooktop connected to the White from the supply.
I have the Black from the cooktop connected to the Black from the supply.
I have the Bare Copper wire and the White (Neutral) wire fromt he cooktop connected to the bare copper from the supply.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this condition? Is there some sort of control unit that controls every burner that could be bad? Or any other sort of part that might be broken? I think it is highly unlikely that every burner is bad.

Thanks for your insight!
-James

Yes james either you have your plug wired up wrong, or you have a power problem coming to the unit. It will be either one. You are probably missing 1 leg of power. What I mean by that is, you are missing 120 Volts. You most likely have to swap the 2 white wires. If you need me you can reach me at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom
