Question Jenn-air
Brand: Jenn-Air
Age: 5 - 10 years

Oven takes a long time to heat to temperature if ever gets there. Extremely slow heating up. Is it the thermostat? Or what do I check in what order? Electric downdraft stove and oven.
Thanks,
Mudminnow

Are both elements working?

Check and see if you are getting 240 volts to the elements.

Here is a link to your range model SVE47600W.

If you have 240 at both elements then one of the element may not be working.

Check the continuity of the element.

I presume I need to unhook the wires from the element being tested? When I hook them if I tested the element itself it showed continuity. If you touched the leads where the wires hooked up to the element I got nothing. I did not test the upper element because only having trouble when baking.
Thanks,
Ed

When I unhooked the wires from element I got continuity by touching the leads to the element itself. When I touched the leads to where the wires would hook up I got nothing.
Thanks,
Ed

If the element has continuity and you are getting 240 volts to the element the has to work.

Can you tell me the resistance reading that you get on the element?

Can you also tell me the wattage of the element? This information is found on the metal bracket on the element.

You have to do this test with the wires removed from the element.

When I touch the leads I the needle moves all the way to the right and if I'm reading it right a 0 reading. On the metal plate it says 208/240v and 2100/2800w.
I am having to hold the leads up tight to element to get resistance.
Thanks,
Ed
