Question How can I troubleshoot the igniter? Oven won't light
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 362.75585890
Age: 5 - 10 years

Brand: Kenmore
Model: 362.75585890
Description: Gas Range

Symptom: Oven doesn't light. Broiler & Range work fine.

Questions:
  1. How do I troubleshoot the igniter?
  2. Or Could I safely assume its the igniter that burned out & go ahead and replace it, since the rest of the appliance clearly has electrical power and all other functions seem to work fine?
  3. Is this the required part? PS231280
  4. Is it the same part for the broiler and the oven?
  5. Could I temporarily switch the broiler's igniter with the oven's igniter while I await the new igniter?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Ps. For some time prior to this problem, the oven was taking a ridiculously long time to preheat (30 min +), and food would take twice the usual time to cook. Would that be a related problem?

Hi,

Can you see the igniter come on? If not then check for voltage to the igniter.
If you have voltage to the igniter, but the igniter does not come on then replace it.

Thanks, AJ. The igniter doesn't come on, so I imagine that is it. Since the broiler gets voltage from the same switch, it seems unlikely that the lower igniter would not be getting voltage, but I"ll check it out.
