Default Hotpoint range not working in particular temperature range
Brand: Hotpoint
Model Number: RGB745WEA7WW
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a Hotpoint free-standing range as described above. For a while, we were unsure that the oven was hot enough, so we bought a cheap oven thermometer to have some check. The oven appears to regularly be 50-75 degrees too cool, but there is a certain range (about 300-400F), where the temperature just plummets.

Today, it was set at 450, the thermometer showed 350, but then dropped to 300, then 250, then 225. So I *lowered* the temperature to 400F on the control knob, and it immediately heated up to 450 on the thermometer.

Is it a broken thermostat? What part do I need to replace it?
Thanks.

Default

Do you get any code in the oven display.

It sound like the clock/control will have to be replaced.

Check the temperature sensor, it should have 1100 ohms resistance at room temperature about 75 degrees.

If the resistance is good then it is the clock/control.

Here is a link to your range model RGB745WEA7WW.

Default checking the resistance

Sheila,

Thank you for getting back. The digital display seems to be working fine.

So you suggest taking out the temperature sensor and checking the resistance? Do I check from the two leads at the plug with an ohmmeter?

Avi

For some reason, my last post didn't get posted.

How do I get at the temp sensor? Are there leads from behind the control panel?

Default It is not the sensor

I managed to isolate which connections are for the sensor from the schematic, and it returns 1100 ohms at room temperature.

What next?
