Exclamation Help - My Oven Door Won't Close!
Brand: KitchenAid
Model Number: ykems207gs0
Age: 5 - 10 years

My oven door stays open about a quarter of an inch. The latch assembly is fine and not restricting the door. The gasket has no lumps and seems okay. The only other things I can think of are the hinges and springs. Would this be the case? I managed to figure out how to remove the oven door, which was not easy as I think they may have been replaced with different hinges. Either that or the owners manual was just wrong on removal instructions ... the instructions were to lift a latch, then lift and pull, whereas the actual hinges require removal pins. In any event, if it is either the hinges or springs, where are they in my model .. in the door or the oven cabinet? Are there instructions on how to proceed with replacement??? Help!!!!

Oops. That should be a 3, not a 2 in my model number, so, yes, it would be from the Kitchen Aid KEMS307 series.

Thanks for the response. I have figured out how to remove the door from the cabinet ... the hinges are the type which require you to insert removal pins or locking pins into the hinge. My door still won't close though. Do the hinges and/or springs need replacing? Where are they on this model...inside the door or the oven cabinet?

Thanks again.

Looks like the hinge/spring assy is in the door

Go to the parts link in my earlier post
Click on the door section, then see all parts for this section.
Then click on the hinge picture it will give you a number of views of the hinge.
May help in determining if this is the problem

There may be an alternate position for the spring (more tension)
I am assuming it is just open at the top
