Default Have the ingnitor, can't loosen the screw
Brand: Jenn-Air
Model Number: jgc8430
Age: 1 - 4 years

The ignitor on my range was cracked and not working. I ordered an ignitor for my front right burner as it seemed like it would be easy to replace. The part came in and now I can't loosen the screws that holds the burner in place. It has a star screw #15 and I am using the appropriate screw driver. It was extremely tight and I used penetrating oil a few times on it over the last few days. I just can't remove them - in fact most of the screws seem to be really tight. I've been using hand pressure; do I need to use a drill to exert enough pressure? I'll take any hints at all. Thanks.

Perhaps using a small socket wrench (like a 6" size), if the star screw driver is of the removable tip type, and can be inserted into a small socket. Bearing down on the socket wrench so that it will not strip the star hole, the wrench handle should easily supply enough torque to loosen the screw.

I did get a socket wrench and while I thought the screws were loosening, the heads of each of the two screws broke off while attempting to remove them. So, I am applying more penetrating oil - maybe without the heads the oil can get to a more important place and I'll try to remove them with vice grips - enough of the head is sticking out to get a grip. Any other way about it? It is attached to the whole sealed burner assembly; I was thinking maybe I'll need to remove the cooktop and try to go in through the bottom......Any suggestions or warnings?
