Ladies and gentleman. I just finished redoing my Kitchen and had this cooktop put in. The cook top is just over year old as it sat in my basement while plans and construction went on. In less then a month the ceramic cooktop cracked from one side to the other. Called Sears and its 400 to fix. Just wondering if it I can replace the glass cooktop myself. I can not find a diagram on how all the parts go toghter in order to take it apart. Thank you for any help.

You should be able to replace it yourself.

Can you please provide your full model number?

The model number can be found on the bottom of the cook top on a tag with the serial number.

The part number for the top is PS978440.

How did the top crack?

Was something dropped on it or was it installed incorrectly?

I have no idea. From doing some reading it appears that if your pot/pans are not perfectly flat the change in heat distribution can cause a crack. That is the only thing I can think might have happen. I went to bed and it was fine and I woke up it was cracked. I still can not figure out how to take the screws out that hold the glassware.
