Unhappy GE Spectra won't heat
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: XL44
Age: 1 - 4 years

My GE Spectra oven will not pre-heat or hold cook temperature. I don't even hear the gas kick on or ignite anymore. The range top burners work fine. Sounds like some sort of igniter problem but don't know where to look and of course, recent remodeling and misplaced manual.

Thanks!

Check to see if the igniter is glowing, if it is and the valve is not opening give the igniter a tap if the burner ignites replace the igniter.

Can you please supply the model number to your range.

The model number should be on a tag on the frame where the drawer closes.

We had a problem where the gas valve sounded like it was opening and closing, the oven burner was making a woofing noise like, "woof woof woof woof". The oven seemed like it took forever to heat up.
Based on help from this forum, we determined it to be an igniter problem. When the igniter fails to glow at the proper temp., the gas valve will not open. I can't guarantee that this is your problem, but it sure sounds like it is.
The igniter is under the oven floor, near the back of the oven. You should not need to remove the warming drawer to make this repair.
Have your model/ serial numbers handy, and call the "partselect" 800 number. They can set you up with the proper igniter, which comes with installation instructions/diagram. Ignitor was shipped very quickly, and much cheaper than at local parts wharehouse.
