Default GE oven: bake and broil work, self-clean does not
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: GRSF3201SM-2
Age: 5 - 10 years

A while ago my oven's bottom element burnt out during a self-clean cycle. A hole burnt through the element, and a buzzing alarm of some kind went off. We contacted the manufacturer, got an authorized replacement element, and installed it. Since the replacement of the bottom element, the oven will now bake or broil at any setting the way it is supposed to, but the self-clean cycle will not run.

I am following the correct instructions to run the self-clean cycle, as I have done successfully in the past. Both the mode and temperature dials are set to "Clean," and the oven door latch is set to the lock position. The lock and temperature lights come on the way they are supposed to, the clock is set correctly, and when I press the Clean button, the timer counts down. By all indications the cycle is running, except neither oven element heats up, and the oven does not clean.

Am I missing something? Does something need to be reset? It is very odd that all other operations work normally, but the self-clean cycle won't run.

Any help would be appreciated.

Default

It sound like the contacts in the selector switch or the thermostat for the self-clean are not making contact to allow the elements to heat.

Can you please verify your model number as I could not located in our database or on microfiche?
