Default GE Electric Oven Low Temperature
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: JDS26G
Age: More than 10 years

Our GE JDS26G electric oven is running about 100 degrees cooler than where it is set. If set for 150 it does not turn on the element at all. If set higher, the temperature measured in the oven is about 100 degrees less (example: have to set thermostat to 475 to get oven up to 350). Does this sound like the temperature sensor is bad? It looks like the part # for the sensor is PS236043. Both upper and lower elements are working.

It is not likely the sensor, the sensor does not sense temperature it senses resistance which is then sent to the control.

To check the sensor do a resistance check on it. It should read 1100 ohms at room temperature which is about 75 degrees.

The resistance goes up as the temperature goes up.

Can you please supply the last four digits of your model number?

Sheila - Thanks for the reply. I'm away from home for the next few days. I'll check the resistance and model # and get back to you on Monday.

Sheila - The temperature sensor is 1086 ohms at room temperature, and goes up if I heat it. The full model information is:
GE
Model# J DS26G0P1AD
SERIAL# FG359510Q

What do you think?

Your sensor is working so it is the control that is faulty.

Can you double check your model number and get the part number of the control?

Soundman,
If the sensor and the intermediate cable ( connects the sensor to the clock ) are approx. 1100 ohms then it is probably the control( usually capacitor). We repair timers and controls.
