Default GE electric oven bake element dead
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: JTP11WP
Age: More than 10 years

The bake element does not heat. Measured voltage at the element is zero with the Control panel set at 350 F or any temp. Any idea what the problem might be?

The other controls and the light work ok.

Will the broil element heat?

Is there 240 volts coming in to the oven?

Here is a link to your oven model JTP11WP.

The bake element does not heat. I removed it and measured the voltage at the two power wires with the control at 350 degrees and the voltage was zero.

Hi Sheila,
Yes there is 240V. The Broil element gets red hot fast, at Hi & Lo setting.

You may have a wire off the control.

Open the panel and check the wires.

Hi Sheila,
Removed the panel. All wires are connected to the relays.

Further, I measured the voltage at K2 with the bake switch on. It was 120 V and zero with the switch off. When ON, there was also 120 volts at BR and DLB.

I turned off the PWR and will check continuity from BA to DBL etc. It looks like the element is connected ok but not heating. What do you think?

Check the continuity of the element.

Make sure that you disconnect the wires first so you don't get a false reading.

Checked voltage at the element with Bake ON at 350 degrees = 120V. Zero volts dropped accross the element. Measured 120 V on both sides of the element.

Removed element, it measures zero ohms. What should it measure?
