Default GE Dual Wave II Micro/Wall Oven Combo-digital panel not working & not heating
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: JKP78G0K3-BG
Age: More than 10 years

I have a GE Dual Wave II Microswave System Model# JKP78G0K3-BG it came with the house so I am guessing the age to be 15-10 years old? When we moved in the microwave never worked it lights up sounds work etc. but never heats up. We moved 2 yrs ago and use our free standing microwave.

Just last week the oven started not working. The bake/broil button will not come on unless I put the oven light on then start then kind of press buttons. Then this weekend the time is on but the functions and heat of it are just not working. I heard that it may be the digital control panel. Any ideas or does it sound like this control panel? Cost range? Of couse it is $75 for the local appliance guy to just look at it and not real sure I trust this local place... Need to do something soon - family of 5 getting tired of the crock-pot and fried food is not really our thing! But would this control panel make the microwave heat up or the oven? Or is it just for the digital read out??

Default

Just got in touch with a service center a friend recommended..They agreed it sounds like a control panel but since it is a 1990 model the part has been discontinued after 7 years...So they say go shopping for a new!!!!!!!!!!!
Not what I was wanting to hear but sounds like the only option now.

Default Check Wiring

Hi Kimberly,

I had a similar same issue with my GE Dual Wave II in that the microwave worked, but the oven did not. The lights would go dim when switching to the oven mode. It so happened that the neighbors in our culdesac (where most of the appliances are the same) was remodelling their kitchen. They threw out their GE Dual Wave II and I asked if I could scavenge some parts off of it. They agreed, so I ended up replacing every PC board, and even the heating element, but nothing changed. It still did not work. So, we purchased a new oven/microwave and upon removing our old GE Dual Wave II discovered that one of the power wires at the electrical junction box (red) had melted and became loose. It could have caught the house on fire, but luckily it just melted and disconnected that leg from the circuit. I also discovered that the house wiring was aluminum, and the oven wiring was copper. Not a good combination. Since it is a 240V system, when the red leg lifted the power supply became only 110V which explained why the microwave was functioning, but the oven elements which needed 240V did not function.

Anyway, you might try pulling out your oven to check the electrical connections before buying a new oven.
