Default GE Downdraft range problem
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: JGP389
Age: 1 - 4 years

I've got a GE Model JGP389 (specifically JXGB89 variation - 4-burner w/central downdraft). Out of the blue, the downdraft fan started turning on when either of the left-side burners are turned on. The fan switch works normally as well. Does this sound like a relay switch short, or some other issue? Also, some directions to get to the replaceable part would be helpful as I don't have a diagram. Thanks so much.

I don't have the wiring diagram for this down draft unit so it is hard to comment on what is happening.

Here is a link to your down draft model JXGB89.

This problem went away spontaneously last night. Very strange indeed. Everything seems to be working okay now. Thanks.

Default GE Downdraft range; Fan comes on with left burners

I have the same model. The fan Always comes on when the left burner knobs are used. I think it is related to the fact that this model often has a grill module on the left side. Mine had that (I didn't like it), but the fan came on automatically whenever the left knobs are turned. I just replaced the module with a burner module, but the fan still comes on. I would like to turn off the fan or disconnect it completely, because it draws the flame and all the heat off the pans and you can't cook anything worth a darn. If anyone has disconnected the fan or knows a way to turn it off please let me know.
Thanks.

I have the same problem and I was wondering what you did to resolve the fan coming on when you turn on the left burner?
