Default GE downdraft cooktop - continious sparking
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: jpg389wev1ww
Age: 5 - 10 years

My GE cooktop's electronic spark ignition is ticking randomly even if the stove is not in use. I have to take the plug out of the wall to stop the ticking. The left two regulators are used they randomly start the vent fan and ignite the burner at the same time. The burners are working fine. Is there a cross connection. Does this need immediate attention? How do i fix it? thanks

I had the same issue when my wife spilled water on the stove.. What I did, I unplugged the power and waited for the stove to dry. A few hours later, it was up and running with no problems.

Yup, most of the time it's just water trips the circuit. Sometimes it's ground wire problem or spark module or switches.
