Default GE cooktop igniter installation question
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: JGP331EP2WG
Age: 5 - 10 years

One of the igniters on my GE cooktop (JGP331EP2WG) is cracked and won't work. I got the replacement part (from PartSelect, item # PS231310), but when I went to install it I realized I can't reach the screw that holds the old igniter onto the main burner unit. The screw is underneath the unit, and the unit is connected to a cross brace, apparently from below. I can't figure out how to get to it without completely disassembling the whole cooktop (unmounting the entire thing, not just lifting the glass cover). That looks like it would also involve disconnecting the gas fittings for at least two of the burners as well.

Any suggestions here?

Thanks
Eric S

Eric, I know is that not a stupid design? What you have to do is, pull the bottom broiler draw out, and look in the back and take the screws off that hold the burner assembly in place. There will also be a screw in the front on the burner assembly that you need to take off. I do believe tht screw has to be taken off from underneath. Then take the whole burner out, and replace it. If you need me you can reach me at my website at ApplianceEducator.com
