Default Gas Range with White Fuzz Around Pilot

Hi all -

Over the weekend I smelled a little gas near my range. I lifted the top to find that the left side pilot was out...and around both pilot and the underside of the rangetop there was a very light (as in you could blow on it and it'd fly away) white fuzz--a lot of it. What does this mean? I re-lit the pilot but didn't wipe the fuzz away. I very rarely use the rangetop at all.

Thanks!
Barbara

Sorry we do not answer question on gas appliance due to safety concerns.

The best thing to do is call a qualified gas technician.

We had the same white deposits. No one seems to know what it is. I am guessing it is from the gas, some impurities that build up over time. We also had a pilot light go out. cleaned it up and it seemed to be OK from there.
