Default Gas Oven won't maintain temp
Brand: Magic Chef
Model Number: Unknown
Age: 5 - 10 years

We have a Magic Chef gas range that is manual cleaning. It was in this house when we moved in 7 years ago. We believe that it was new at the time. We cannot locate the model or serial number because the sticker labels they put inside the broiler door are melted/rubbed off. All I can tell you is that it is white with a black door and black backsplash. There is a digital clock/timer on the right side of the backsplash.

That said, this unit has had little issues over the last year or so. Sometimes the burners do not light. You hear the gas coming out, but it doesn't light. Oddly, the problem comes and goes. This is the least of the problems. Of late, the oven will not maintain temperature. The temperature will climb and then it will drop back off. For example, before I turned it up to 350 and let it preheat. It reached the temp and I put my pan in. A half hour later when I went to check the cake, the oven temp was down to 200. I cranked it up for a second and then put it back to 350, just to get it going. The temp went up...but up to 450.

Because I can't find a model number, I'm having difficulty finding help online. We're fairly handy with experience running gas lines so this is not an issue. I'm looking for a direction to look at regarding part replacement. Any help in this would be appreciated.

If you have your owners manual it may have your model number on it.

If you think you know what part you need sometimes the part number is on the part.

With no model number it is hard to get parts.

The manual doesn't have the model number on it. It directs you to look at the label that is melted out of the broiler. I've no idea what the part is either. I was hoping someone could give me a clue as to what area it would be in.

The only thing I can suggest is to go into a local Maytag authorized dealership.

They may be able to help you by showing you pictures.

Magic Chef is a branch of Maytag.
