Cool Gas oven wont lite
Brand: White-Westinghouse
Age: More than 10 years

ignitor is glowing but gas valve will not open. what is the proceedure to determin which is faulty. i read that the ignitor even though it is glowing might not be sending the right voltage to the valve. can anyone tell me the proper test proceedure and correct values i am to read. i am a liecenced hvac-r for 15 years and dont work on domestic ovens except it happens to be my own . thanks

Hi,

Put your clamp on amp meter on the ignitor wire.

The ignitor has to draw so many amps to pull the gas valve open.

You should find how many amps is need printed on the valve, something like 3.3 amps.

If the amps are low replace the ignitor. If they are ok then you need to look at the valve.

I would guess you need a new ignitor.

it was only drawing 2.3 amps .thanks i will order a ignitor tommorrow.
