Brand: General Electric
Age: More than 10 years

When I turn on my front burner smoke starts coming from behind the turn on knob

What is the model number?
Gas or Electric?

Unplug it, open it up and see if there is anything obvious by the control
Do not use this burner until you find the cause

I am not sure of the model number. It is electric.
