Smoke and fire came out of top briefly and the oven does not work with clock and controls out. The cooktop still works however. What could be the problem, any help would be appreciated.

It may be that a wire burnt off the clock.

You will have to take the control panel apart and check to see where the smoke and fire came from.

Make sure you unplug the range before taking the control panel apart.
