Default F3 error, but...
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: JTP26GV2BB
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hi All,

This oven started throwing F3 errors during cleaning cycles about a year ago. Now, it does it when baking.

I've measured the oven temp sensor at the sensor and controller connector, and get the proper 1100 ohms. I don't see any problems with kinks or anything in the wires. It's been working fine for eight years that I know of.

I also noticed that the fan wasn't coming on anymore, and found that the thermal limit switch wasn't closing, even when the chassis surface was well above 145 degrees. I replaced the switch (part #159). I just put everything back together, but still get an F3, and no fan. (If I short across the thermal switch, the fan runs.)

Part of me wonders if I didn't just get (un)lucky and got a bad replacement switch). The other part of me wonders if I don't fully understand how it's supposed to work, and if I'm missing something out of ignorance.

Any thoughts?

- Max

Default A Little More Information

I'm still playing...

I got the fan limit switch working. A little tap with a screwdriver, and it seems fine now. Even with it running, I get the F3 error, though.

I did find that if I left the front panel hanging, I could heat the oven to 400 degrees, and it worked just fine. After a half hour or so, I killed the power, and measured the oven temp sensor. It was at about 1800 ohms. I don't have a spec, but that seems pretty reasonable.

I hung the front panel back up, and I got the F3 error within five minutes. This all leads me to think that having that fan not running for what might have been a year damaged the controller. I hate to buy a $235 controller without being sure.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks,
Max
