Default F2 trouble code
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: JKP27
Age: More than 10 years

I get the F2 error message when baking. Found a tech paper inside behind the control panel. It says F2 is the oven overheating. I checked the fan sensor and found it bad. Before i replaced it I wired the 2 sensor wires together so the fan would run all of the time. Turned the oven on (with the fan running) and still got F2 code. Replaced the sensor (the rod inside of the oven), turned the oven on and it still gives the F2 code.

The tech paper says to do the following:
Check for welded relay contacts. Where do I find these?
Check for open thermal switch in lock motor circut. This switch is supposed to be normally closed--it checks out ok.
Check fan thermal switch--this is defective, but I don't think this is the entire problem because with the fan hot wired to run all of the time the oven still overheats.
Look for high resistance in the sensor circuit--how do I do that?

HELP!!

The relay is locate on the clock assembly or on a separate relay board.

The sensor that you replace in the oven is the sensor that you are to check for high resistance.

The resistance is checked with an ohm meter.

The resistance of the sensor should be 1100 ohm at room temperature.

Here is a link to your oven model JKP27.

For a more detailed breakdown of your oven you will need the last part of your model number.

Red face F2 trouble code

Thanks so much for answering.

Model number off of the tag inside of the oven is JKP27WOW2WW.

Resistance of sensor is 1050 ohms.

On the control panel there are 2 each Potter and Brumsfield relays (mark K5 & K3 on the tech sheet) -I removed the cover from both of them and checked the contacts--nothing is fused together, i.e the metal between the contacts moves freely.

There are 2 other black objects on the control panel which may be relays. They are K4 & K1 on the tech sheet with "OMRON" on the cover. These do not appear to have removable covers--I tried to remove one of them but am afraid I will break it trying to get it off.

I have photographs of the relays but I do not know how to attach them.

The resistance of the sensor is good.

Check the wiring harness that goes from the sensor to the control.

If the wiring harness checks to be good replace the control.

Default F2 error code

Resistance from one of the wires (at the pigtail to the sensor on the rear of the oven) is infinite on 4 & zero on 6.

Resistance from the other wire at the rear of the oven is zero on 4 & infinite on 6.

I assume this means that the wiring is ok and the control is bad.

Please confirm---thanks again for all of your help....

It sounds like there is a break in one of the wires.

They should both read the same.

Well, I did not explain it very well.

I unplugged the sensor from the rear of the oven. I also unplugged the wires from the terminal block on the control board. The wires from the sensor go to the #4 & #6 marks on the terminal block. I will call them wire #4 & wire #6.

1 end of the ohmmeter went to one end of wire "A" at the rear and the other end went to the #4 wire at the front. Zero resistance. When I read from "A" to #6 I get infinite resistance.

When I changed the rear ohmmeter probe to the other rear wire, (wire "B") I read zero resistance on the #6 wire and infinite resistance on the #4 wire.

I also plugged the sensor back into the wiring harness and checked the resistance across #4 & #6 wires--it read about 1050 ohms.

I would think that if there was a break in wire #1 I would read infinite resistance from A to both #4 & #6. If there was a break in wire #2 I would read infinite resistance from B to both #4 & #6. I also would not get 1050 ohms at wires #4 & #6 if one of the wires was broken.

Agreed??

Thanks again for your help....

Yes if there was a break in the wire you would not get the resistance reading of the sensor.

If would be the control that has an internal problem and will have to be replaced.

Ordered the parts Thursday--they came in today--everything installed and working.
You know, the internal fan has not worked for a while--the manual says that the fan is used to cool the oven internal parts....maybe the control panel got too hot...

Anyway, thanks again for all of your help. I'm also impressed with the speed of order processing and the quick delivery.
