Default F2 Fault code and faulty digital display
Brand: Magic Chef
Model Number: ERC4731MCPX
Age: More than 10 years

Hello,
I have a glass top Magic Chef range that gets an F2 fault code and beeps (usually in the middle of the night!) at random times during the day. We have been turning off the breaker until we need to use it as all of the burners and oven work perfectly. The other day I was meddling around with the connections of the clock and circuit board underneath the cooktop and the display is now a little messed up. I'm hoping that the F2 code means I need a new clock and the new clock will take care of the messed up display. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Dave

Can you please verify your model number?

It should be on a tag on the frame of the range where the drawer closes.

F2 on a Magic Chef means the over is to hot . The oven sensor is going bad and can not read the right temp and the control thinks the oven is to hot. Oven sensor is the probe in the oven on the back wall with 2 screws holding it.

Eric,
Is that possible even when the oveen is not on? It has never beeped when in use, only at random times when not being used. It also had an F1 code just last night. This is turning into a nightmare!!

Check the oven sensor it should read 1100 ohms at room temperature about 75 degrees.

If it read this then it is good and you may have a faulty clock control.

Here is a link to your oven model 5898VRV.

Thank you both for your help. I ordered the new clock already because of the screwed up numbers. I'll also check the sensor. Hopefully it's just the clock! Thanks again!

Sheila/Eric,
I replaced the clock. The numbers look good. Then I hear the dreaded beep, beep, beep! It's an F1 code. I pulled the connection for the membrane- no more beep. Now my problem is what parts to replace. I took the membrane off the stove and the part number is 7403P331-60. The problem is all of the ones I see are black. We have a white stove. Do I need to order the white overlay additionally or is there a different part # that goes with a white stove? The overlay looks to me to be more than just a white covering that goes over 7403P331-60. Isn't there just one piece that I can buy that will take care of the whole problem? Thanks.

Dave
