Default Erratic gas oven temperature
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 362.75322001
Age: 1 - 4 years

The oven temperature is very erratic. It will occasionally come up to the set temperature but then drops 50-60 degrees below the setting and then only occasionally comes back up in temperature. Sometimes the burners will light and shut off after less than a minute. Sometimes they will light and stay lit. I have replaced both the control board and the temperature probe. I tested both the new and old temp probes (I wish I would have learned how to do that before I bought the new one!) and they test fine. Is it possible that I got a bad control board? The problem has not changed with any of the parts changes. What's next?

You might have a bad ignitor. Have you ever herd a noise like varooooom? Like the gas fills up the cavity, and then it lights. You can reach me at T. PAONE's APPLIANCE SALES & SERVICE GUIDE

I don't hear the varoom you mentioned. I can see the igniter glowing when the oven lights and the flame does come on but then it frequently goes out within 10-20 seconds. Any other ideas? Thanks.

I still think it could be the glow coil. because if it takes awile for the oven to come on the first time. It can give you the same condition. It also could be the gas valve. But I doubt it. I can't remember when I replaced my last gas valve. I would change out the ignitor. For some reason this morning, where I am logging on, the net is super slow. So I cannot pull your model # up. So I would like to ask you if you have a seperate glow coil for the broiler, does it work fine. If so definetly replace the bake glow coil Tom I can be reached at my web site at T. PAONE's APPLIANCE SALES & SERVICE GUIDE

Default IRT the ignitor coil

I do have separate broil and oven ignitors. I watched them both work and they looked the same and both lit within about the same amount of time. One thing that I noticed while I was watching the oven burner was that it lit and the flame was pretty high (it projected away from the burner about and inch or so) and then it would get much smaller (less than a half an inch from the burner) for 5 or 10 seconds and then it would come back to normal. It continued to cycle that way the whole time I watched it. The flame never went out. Does that help at all?

Default Additional info on the ignitors

According to Sears and PS the broil and bake ignitors are the same part (although the broil ignitor has a slightly differnet bracket so I could not use it on the oven) so I put the bake ignitor on the broiler and it worked fine. I measured the resistance on both and the bake ignitor had about 40ohms more resistance (260 on the broil and 300 on the bake). Is that enough to make a difference?

Yes, that does help. That gas valve is a dual valve. One side of the valve powers the broil, and the other side powers the bake. If the broil works fine, then it could not be the pressure regulator valve mounted on the back of the stove. I would replace the gas Valve. Tom T. PAONE's APPLIANCE SALES & SERVICE GUIDE
