Default Eratic temperature electric oven
Brand: Magic Chef
Model Number: 3868XRA
Age: Please select

Not sure of units age. I need to set temperature setting @ 70* over desired # but if I go from a higher temp to a lower setting there is a much smaller difference between setting & actual.
Example: If I want a temp of 350 on startup, I need to set oven to 425. If I want a temp of 350 from an oven that is at 425, a setting of 390 works. Temps seem to hold steady under both situation. This is a new problem...any ideas?

Check the resistance of the temperature sensor in the oven.

At a room temperature of 75 degrees the resistance should be about 1100 ohms.

If the sensor checks out to be good then the oven control will have to be replaced.

Here is a link to your range model 3868XRA.

Sensor chk'd OK, there are 2 controls listed and if I understand my part # should be PS91778 (series 10) based on the Serial # 16C333214797...does that seem right?
THANKS FOR THE HELP

Default Problem...very confused

I chk'd the sensor & it's fine so you said I would need to replace the oven control.
I ordered a control panel assembly (PS91778) and received what seem to be cosmetic parts. Should I have ordered a relay board? I'll await your reply
Thanks
Max

It should be the clock that you order.
