Default Electric range no heat
Brand: Electrolux
Model Number: PLES389DCB
Age: 1 - 4 years

My electric range has a glass cooktop and the controls on the front. Today, after running great for 4 years (mar 2004). the cooktop lost heat. I was cooking on the front two burners and they just turned off and started to cool. The cooktop sensor ontop stopped showing red ( like when it the burners are on or cooling off). I tried turning them on and off but no help. At this point the clock was still on and the red on lights were still on.

I tried throwing the power and this did no work. Now the control shows nothing on at all , until you turn one (any of them) on the burner knobs. Then the burner red light comes on and the main control starts with PF like when the power goes off. Then you have reset the clock which works. None of this makes the heat come on.

You can also, at this time, set the oven to bake and the control panel shows the temp and that it is preheating, but no real heat happens. Once you turn the burner knobs back to off, all control lights go dead.

Is this a control panel problem? Programming Problem? Some kind of Lock out? Electrical Problem?

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you have lost half your 240 volts
The parts powered by 120 volts still work

Easiest way to check is with a volt/ohm meter
A faulty breaker could do this or it could be a fault in the stove tripping the one side of the line.

Default Volt ohmeter

Which parts do I check for the 240? Do I pull out the range and check the outlet? Do I take the front control panel of and check somewhere in there? Do I check the breaker at the fuse panel on the house?

Thanks in advance.

First place to check would be at the plug
Unplug the unit and check if you have 220

If not, switch breaker off/on slowly
Now do you have 220?

If not breaker is shot or you have a problem with the house wiring

If yes, plug stove back in and try it
If it does not operate correctly
Unplug it and check for voltage at the plug again
If you now again do not have 220 there is a problem in the stove

I went out and turned the range breaker off several times and . . . presto the control panel came on and I have heat.

Thank you so much. Now I have other appliances that need help to write in about.
