Thumbs up Dual element only heating up in middle
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MER6772BAW
Age: 5 - 10 years

I'm fairly certain that the element is bad since half of it works. But, call me cheap, I don't want to spend $70, and the new part doesn't fix the problem! With a glass top range, is there any way to measure resistance to confirm my diagnosis? If so, what should be the ohm range be? I removed the top and it looks fairly easy to replace the burner, since I have never replace one, is there any special procedure so I don't create any new problems? Thanks in advance for your help!

Remove the element.

If it is the 9" element the inner coil should have 40 to 46 ohms and the outer should have 47 to 54 ohms resistance.

If is is the 12" element the inner coil should have 30 to 36 ohms and the outer should have 53 to 59 ohms resistance.

These are approximate values.

You should not have any trouble installing the new one.

Here is a link to your range model MER6772BAW.

I have a Frigidaire (FEF377CFBE) with a bad dual element. I can find no detailed information on the removal of the glass top. I don't just want to rip into it for fear of breaking the top. Can anyone help me out. Thanks
