Default Downdraft Fan Not Working
Brand: Jenn-Air
Model Number: JED8230ADB
Age: 1 - 4 years

Please help. The downdraft exhaust fan on my Jenn-Air stopped working. How can I test to see if it is the switch, the fan relay or the fan itself that is bad? I have the schematic that came with the cooktop. I have glass burners in the left side, and a grill in the right side. I checked and all wires look good going to all parts per the schematic. Can I connect the fan directly to 120VAC to see if it works? If so, do I connect black to black and white to white to test it, or is the red wire involved as well? THANKS! Jerry in Ohio.

Yes you can hook the fan directly to a power supply to see if it will work.

Hook white to white and black to black. The red wire is for the low speed just put a piece of electrical tape over the wire while you test it.

The best way to test the switch is with an ohm meter.

If the switch checks good and the motor work when you hook it up direct then you know that it is the relay.

Here is a link to your cook top model JED8230ADB.
