Red face Door won't open, food captive
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: JTP15WA1WW
Age: 5 - 10 years

The oven was on, cooking, but when I tried to open the door it wouldn't open. After it coolled it still wouldn't open. I tried hitting the clear button three times, then holding it for 3 to 4 seconds, but nothing improved. How do I get the door open? The food in there is going to start to smell soon!!

I would check the manual to see if there is a emergency procedure for unlocking the door.

If not, remove the power from the oven.

I've had to unlock appliances several times and it can be a pain. However, there is a link I posted to a pic of your lock assembly based on you model number.

If you can get to that image you can see that you need to try and manipulate the left hand side of that lock. I've used a small flat blade screwdriver to do this kind of thing before.

Pictures sometimes don't do justice though.

Hope that helps some. Good luck.

Thanks for your help. The latch hook was moving freely, but I noticed that the right side of the door was willing to open, but not the left. Looking at the left door more closely, I noticed that the top of the door sat in much closer to the oven shell than the bottom. I lifted up on the door slightly and it released. I'm guessing something or someone leaned against the door just enough the throw things out of wack.

I guess all is well now. The food has been freed! Another day and it might have been getting rather rebellious......smellllllllly
