Default Door latch leeps locking
Brand: KitchenAid
Model Number: KEMS377GBL0
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hello,

The door latch on my oven keeps latching every time the door is closed. To get it open I need to fish around with a screw driver to slide the latch over while pulling the door open. I removed the grate between the microwave and oven (it's a double with with the MW on top and oven on bottom) to see what going on. The solenoid is OK as I can watch it fire when I turn the clean cycle on/off. Is there some other piece that is supposed to slide the latch open when the door is opened/closed normally (i.e. under daily use and not cleaning mode)?

Also, assuming I can order the latch assembly here how do I get at it to replace? Does the microwave slide out by itself so I can reach the latch assembly or it is on some tray that slides out by itself?

To remove the microwave oven from the oven cabinet:

1. Open both the oven doors and remove the trim strips at the top of the microwave cavity and at the top of the lower oven cavity.

2. Remove the screws from the left and right brackets holding the microwave oven to the bottom of the compartment.

3. Disconnect the wire connections as you slide the microwave oven out of the oven cabinet.

The oven door switch performs two functions:

1. It acts as a logic switch that signals the microcomputer board that the oven door is closed.

2 It provides a circuit for the door lock solenoid to assist in locking the oven door during the self clean cycle.

You may have a problem with the electronic control.
