Is it possible that the replacement of the wrong metal disconnects, while replacing electric stove switches, has caused the new switches to blow? This was the first time the disconnects looked damaged so I thought replacing them was a good idea. Replacing switches had always been uneventful, but this has been a nightmare!

If you are talking about the infinite burner controls then the following comments apply.
When you replace any of these you must be carefull to wire the L1, L2 wires correctly.
L1 goes to L1 contact, L2 goes to L2 contact as observed on the new switch housing. Check other switches for comparison. If the black wire goes to L1 and the red wire goes to L2, for example, then you MUST wire the new switch the same way.
Other wise when you turn on the new switch and another switch, you will provide a short path thru the common pilot lite wire. Now both switches will blow out. Please post results.
