Default Converting Jenn-air 8750 from LP to natural
Brand: Jenn-Air
Model Number: JGR8750
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hi!

We just got a used Jenn-Air JGR8750 range that was set up for propane, and we need to convert it to natural gas. There are no orifices taped to it anywhere, and the people we got it from say it came to them new this way, and they were not given any parts. The sticker on the range says it was set up for natural gas; they ordered it for LP gas and have used it on LP as it came to them for years.

When searching for the parts online, I find no orifices sold separately, just as assemblies, available in left or right. But no where does it say whether the assembly is for natural gas or LP gas! Is there something adjustable in the orifices?

Does anyone know what we need to do to change this range over? We were also told by a service man that we need to change something in the pressure regulator and don't know how to do this, either.

thank you!

Laurie

Here is a link to a service manual which includes your stove
Maytag Service Library

There is also info in the service bulletins

This may be a job that is best left to professionals.
Where I live, only a person with a gas fitter ticket can work on a regulator.
Otherwise it can void your house insurance.

Thanks, Denman. I think we have the problem sorted out. We got a call back from a local repairman and he told me what I need to do.

To change the pressure regulator, you just take off the little white plastic cap, unscrew the thing the cap sits on and put it in upside down. There is a 'p' on one side for propane and an 'n' on the other for natural. Put the white cap back on so dirt doesn't fall in and fill the little air vent.

The orifices turned out to be adjustable. If you're using propane, you screw them all the way down, to cut the air out. If you're using natural, turn them back 2 1/2 turns. If the flame is still yellowish, back it off until the flame is nicely blue.

In this state, it's pretty much a free for all. You can do whatever you want, DIY, in your own home, but you can't do it for anyone else unless you're licensed. Freedome to blow yourself up, I guess.

That's a good link you posted; I didn't find it while looking through the Jenn-air site.

Grr... the forum ate my reply.

Thanks, Denman. We got it sorted out- a local repairman called back this evening and told us how to do it. No parts are needed.

For the regulator, just take the little white plastic cap off, screw the thing the cap sits over, and turn it upside down and screw it back in. Replace cap. That's it. There is a P on one side for propane and an N on the other for natural.

The orifices are adjustable; if you're using propane, you screw them all the way down. If you use natural, you back them off about 2 and 1/2 turns. Check the flame; if it's still yellowish, back them off more until the flame is nicely blue.

In this state, you can DIY pretty much whatever you want, as long as it's in your own house rather than for someone else. For someone else, you have to be licensed to work with plumbing, electricity or gas.

That's a great link you posted, BTW.
