Default Control panel completely dead
Brand: KitchenAid
Model Number: KGST307HBL8
Age: 1 - 4 years

We had a lightning strike and afterwards the control panel on our oven is completely dead. The stove top burners continue to work normally but the electronic control panel does not light up or respond at all.

Our repairman wanted about $800 to fix it but then when we called him to do the job he says it's too complex for him and he recommended we call a kitchenaid certified/recommended repairman for the job.

After doing some research of my own it looks like the part may only be about $285 if it's the part I'm thinking of. I found this diagram and parts list and it looks like the CNTRL-ELEC part number PS650938 might be the culprit.

I'm a pretty capable guy when it comes to mechanical and electrical repair so if this is the part I'd be more than happy to do it myself but I don't know if there could be a hidden component that I may be overlooking. I get a little nervous ordering something like this online if I cannot return it so I want to be sure ahead of time especially since I keep seeing Whirlpool come up instead of Kitchenaid when I do a search by model.

Any help would be much appreciated.

The best thing to do first before you order you part is to check the control with a meter and your wiring diagram.

Check to see if you are getting power to the control and out of the control.

If you are get power to the control but nothing out you have found your problem.

Usually when you get a power surge from lightening strike you will see a blown part on the board.

The reason that the parts come up as Whirlpool in stead of KitchenAid is that Whirlpool Corporation manufactures KitchenAid.

Here is a link to your range model KGST307HBL8.

Default Wiring diagram

I have everything needed to test the board except for the wiring diagram. Do you know where I might be able to find one?

After taking the oven apart I found a melted resistor on the power board and am trying to replace it to see if I get lucky. I give it a 30% chance of really fixing the problem since there can easily be unseen damage to the chips on the board as well.

Thanks for your assistance.

The wiring diagram for the range should be the back of the range in an envelope.

The diagram for the clock is not supply with the range.

If you can still see the colors on the resistor you should be able to find one at and electronic supply shop.
