Default Control board
Brand: Hotpoint
Model Number: RB787GY3BB
Age: 5 - 10 years

The control panel caught fire and needs to be replaced. The starting point looks like the terminal connections. The broil terminal is the worst. I have ordered a new board but I do not want it to be ruined if another part was the cause of the melt down. What could have causes the failure?

It was likely a loose connection on the board that cause the problem.

There is nothing else that would cause this unless you have a power surge from a storm but other thing in your home would have been effected also.

When you replace the control make sure that the terminals are tight.

Here is a link to your range model RB787GY3BB.
