can anyone advise me on how hard it would be to change a gas safety valve on a ge-xl-44 gas stove thanks

We do not give advice on gas appliances due to safety concerns.

The best thing to do is to have a qualified gas technician look at your stove.

I just have an electric one myself. I prefer to use those in the long run.
