Default Change Clock now oven is slow to heat
Brand: Amana
Model Number: AER5735QAW
Age: 1 - 4 years

I just changed the clock on my oven because it stopped working. Now the oven is very slow to heat. From searching through the forum it sounds like it might be the bake element.

How do I know if it is the bake element?

If I can find a ohm meter how do I test the element?

Assuming the bake element is the problem, can I touch to see if it is not heating?

When they fail do they sometimes warm up a little without getting very hot?

thanks

Hi,

The bake element either works (gets red hot) or it does not. If you can not see it get red hot it's not working.

The little bit of heat you are getting durring the pre heat cycle is coming from the broil element on top.

The broil element will come on at half power to help heat the oven durring the pre heat cycle. You will not see the broil element get red hot durring the pre heat.

You either don't have power to the bake element. Power comes from the clock.
Or you have a bad bake element.

Thanks for the info. Any chance you can tell me how to get at the element. It is enclosed, so the bottom is flat. Do I have to remove the screws on the front and take of the door to get at it?

thanks
