Maytag glass top burner replacement Quote:

I just figured it out and thought I'd post so others can too. Open the oven door and remove the two black machine screws on the underside of both front corners of the cooktop. This allows you to lift the top up, like the lid of a waching machine. Be careful because there are no hinges at the back edge, but lift it as if there was a hinge because there are wires there. Prop up the cooktop like you would the hood of a car. Each burner is held in by only two screws... do NOT remove any other screws besides these two. Hold the burner in place and remove the two screws the go through the silver disc on the bottom of the burner. Loosen the other two screws that hold the clips in place and rotate them out of the way. Disconnect the four wires, and PAY ATTENTION TO WHERE THEY GO so you can reconnect them properly. Pull on the metal clip connector and NOT the wire to avoid damaging the connector. Attach the four wires to the same locations on the new burner and hold it up against the underside of the cooktop. Rotate the clips back and insert the two screws back into the same-numbered holes on the underside of the burner. Be careful when you do this, because you will be puncturing the ceramic when you put in the new screws for the first time. It's soft and easy to screw into. Don't just push the screw in, rather screw it in to the ceramic. Check on last time to be sure you reconnected all four wires, and that nothing is dangling or pinched. Tighten the two screws at the other end of the clips and lower the cooktop back in place, making sure it is lined up and not pinching wires in the back. Replace the first two screws you removed first, which hold down the top and POOF! You're done!
The whole procedure too me about 30 minutes and I used only one tool... a 1/4" socket/nut driver. |
