When I turn my oven on to bake, the broiler comes on automatically. This can happen after a long time of baking or when I turn on oven to preheat. Very inconsistent. Could it be a simple replacement of the selector knob element?

In older ovens it is normal for the broil element to come on during the preheat and during cooking.

It will cycle on and off to maintain oven temperature.
