Default Broiler Element tests good, but doesn't work
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: MEF316WFSC
Age: More than 10 years

My broiler element doesn't heat so, I went to WL May to get a new one. They tested it and said it was good. They said a switch may be bad. Anyone know where to look and how to test? Unit is lightly used and all other functions are working. Thanks for any help you can give.

Here is a parts break down with a schematic
Frigidaire MEF316WFSC

Since your bake element works all that is left is the Bake/Broil switch or a broken wire

To check
Unplug stove
Unplug common wire from the switch
Set it at broil and measure continuity. Should be 0 ohms
Or remove it and take it in to get checked

NOTE: Make sure the broiler wire goes directly to the switch.
It is common to have a thermal cutout mounted to the top of the oven as a safety device.
This may have be installed on your oven
Quite often manufacturers update their products but do not update schematics

This product just has a thermostat. Check the wires at the thermostat, and see if any of the wires are burn't If not, replace the thermostat. You said that the broil element is good, so that just leaves the thermostat. Take care of it. You can order the thermostat from these good people on this web site. If you need me you can reach me at T. PAONE's APPLIANCE SALES & SERVICE GUIDE Tom
